How to get?
Mahahual is located in the heart of the Costa Maya, 350 km south of Cancun and 130 km north of Chetumal. A small paradise surrounded by nature and with the typical colors of the Caribbean Sea. A place in constant development in which you can feel the deep roots of the Mayan culture. A return to the origins, with many options for adventure or relaxation, a typical town of Mayan culture and gastronomy. In a few years, this town has become the center of this coastal strip. A clear landmark of the place is the lighthouse, very close to a small naval base.
To the north of the lighthouse is the Costa Maya Pier, which receives more than a million visitors a year, who arrive aboard spectacular cruise ships. Several of them usually arrive every week, especially during the winter.
South of the lighthouse is where the liveliest and most interesting part of Mahahual is located. Shops, restaurants, beach clubs and small hotels like Posada Pachamama meet there. When the cruise ships are there, there is great activity in the area and the town fills with people.
There is also the beautiful beach that thanks to the proximity of the Mesoamerican Reef is a natural pool of incredible shades of blue and emeralds. Nearby, there are incredible sites for both scuba diving and freediving. The place is charming and is still far from resembling the great towns of the Riviera Maya; Perhaps that is why it attracts a large number of visitors from Chetumal, Mérida and other cities in the Yucatan Peninsula, as well as numerous American and European travelers.
